In the early days of skiing, bindings were very similar to those which were used on snowshoes. They were simple leather straps fastened over the toe of the ski boot. As the ski industry started to develop more, the bindings started being more and more complex.
Modern alpine skiing bindings fix the boot at the toe and heel. In some cases, the boot can release in case of a fall. Why? To reduce a risk of injury. The boot can be released by the binding if a certain amount of torque is applied, for example, created by the weight of the skier.
Some alpine bindings allow the heel to be clipped down to the ski when skiing downhill. After that, the heel can be released to start climbing. This kind of binding is often called a randonee or alpine touring binding.
When it comes to the Nordic bindings, there are many types. Cable binding, Rottefella, New Nordic Norm, Nordic Integrated System, Salomon Nordic System, Prolink, New Telemark Norm... Some of them are no longer popular, but all of them are perfectly adjusted for X-Country skiing.
Are you ready to choose your ski bindings? At 2ski-glisse.ch you'll find detailed descriptions of every offered product so you can choose the one that meets all of your expectations.
