Lenses are the most important part of the sunglasses. As you know from the previous article, the main reason we wear sunglasses is that our eyes really need a UV protection. While doing winter sports like snowboarding, skiing or snowshoeing, you want to make sure your eyes are safe, since you will spend an entire day in bright light conditions.
Snow mirrors the light, so it's not only uncomfortable but also unsafe to forget a professional sunglasses with you. This article considers few lens materials and the difference between them. The next and the last one will discuss intended use of lens tints and colors and the technology used for lenses.
According to lenses materials, in stock you will find:
Optical Glass
Optical Glass Lenses are ground and polished to exacting standards. They assure the most distortion-free vision. This material is considered as extremely durable and scratch resistant. The disadvantage, however, is that they tend to be more expensive than other lenses. They may also spider or break when impacted, which can be a hazard for winter, active sports.
Polycarbonate
Polycarbonate lenses are basically plastic lenses. They are the best for individuals who don't remember to care about their sunglasses while on a slope. They are made from a similar material to that of aircraft windshields, we can say also that they are virtually indestructible. Polycarbonate is surprisingly light and scratch resistant. It offers a high level of optical clarity, although not as big as optical glass does. However, it is 50 times more impact resistant than optical glass! That is a lot!
NXT Polyurethane
This material is truly at the top of the line. If you combine all advantages of optical glass and polycarbonate lenses, you will receive nothing else than NXT Polyurethane. NXT lenses are made with Trivex which is an advanced polymer material which pros include superior optical clarity, extreme impact resistance, and ultralight weight. Is there anything wrong with them...? Well, the price might be shocking...
Acrylic Lenses
Acrylic lenses are an inexpensive sunglass solution. They are also an ideal choice for casual or fashion sunglasses - you will find so many colors and shapes that you may have a problem with choosing the most beautiful ones. Unfortunately, the primary disadvantage of acrylic lenses is that for this lower price and a bigger variety, you need to sacrifice some durability and optical clarity.
